Hello parents and students,
Due to the snow day, I've had to make a few changes to this week's homework:
****There were conflicting dates listed on the blog and Dojo for the Mid-Quarter Unit Test. The blog gave the test date as February 4, but I administered the test on January 28. I have decided to give the test again on Monday(February 4) so that everyone will have ample time to prepare. I will be sending home the graded tests tomorrow. Use them to study for Monday's test. The Retake Test may be VERY similar to the Unit Test you took on January 28 (*hint, hint*).
****There is an error on the Unit Project page AG199. The Greenhouse B and C have the letters switched. Look at the pictures below and make the correction on your copy of the project. Thank you!

Week of September 17-21
Parents,
Many of the students had great difficulty with Friday's test. Most of them were unable to complete it.
Many of my students are struggling with word problems because they are not understanding what they are reading.
Many of them also choose not to follow the steps to problem solving that I have been teaching them. They should each have the steps written in their math notebooks and also have a print out of it in their binders. Please help them practice these skills.
Due to the difficulty many students had with Friday's test, we will take an alternate Chapter 1 Test this Wednesday.
This week we are covering the following topics:
This week's homework:
***************************Quarter 1 Math Project************************
Last Friday, I sent home the Math Project for this Quarter. This project has as much weight on student's grades as a test.
Please ask your child about his/her project and help them plan how to have it complete by October 1. The previous date posted of September 28th was incorrect. They have about two weeks to complete the entire project. They may have some time during school to work on the project, but this is considered an at home activity. They will need access to the internet to successfully complete the project. If you lack internet access, please let me know by email immediately.
Late project will receive a severe grade reduction. Absolutely no projects will be accepted after October 3, due to grade cut off times.
If you have any other questions or problems, please feel free to contact me.

Changes for the Week of August 27-31
Hello Parents!
I've made a few changes to the end of this week.
- No Chapter 1 Test tomorrow! Instead we will take a short review quiz and learn new problem solving techniques
- All corrected quizzes are due tomorrow. Most students received their graded quizzes either Tuesday or yesterday. If they correct their mistakes, they can earn partial credit and improve their grade. Only last week's test can be corrected for an improved grade.
- All homework assignments for the week remain the same.
If for some reason your child did not receive the math packet or lost it, I have posted a link to download it below. Most of this week's homework assignments were in the packet.
If you don't have your child's login information for MobyMax or XtraMath, please see the new tab labeled Student login info above.
Have a great evening!

Dear Parents and Students,
Congratulations to us all! We made it through a wonderful 4th grade year! The students have learned so much this year and I want to make sure they keep their skills sharp for 5th grade.
I have sent home information for two resources that your child can use during the summer: MobyMax and XtraMath. Your child is already enrolled in both programs. I have sent home their login information either in hand or with their report card.
If you somehow misplace or do not receive the login information, please contact me at [email protected] and I'll email it to you.
Your child can access both programs from a computer, tablet, or cell phone. Even just 20 minutes a day will help keep them sharp and reduce the chance of learning loss. They should especially be working on their math fact fluency.
The students have also been given their Go Math textbooks and Standards Practice Book to keep and take home. There is a section in the Standards Practice Book (pg. P219-P266) called "Getting Ready for 5th Grade". It has lessons that introduce concepts that will help prepare them for next year. Please encourage your child to work on those lessons.
I hope you are able to take full advantage of all the learning opportunities I've mentioned and those that are shared on the home page of the 4th grade blog. It can truly make a difference in your child's future success.
I hope you all have a wonderful summer and I hope to see you all next year!

Dear Parents,
I would like to thank each of you for your patience and understanding regarding the change in extra credit assignment due dates. I am proud of each student that went above and beyond and completed a project.
The final graded classwork, homework, and extra credit projects were sent home today. Those grades have already been entered and can be seen on ParentVue.
Project grades were not just based on having it completed. I looked for neatness, spelling and grammar, how closely directions were followed, and accuracy of math calculations. Those who did well saw a marked improvement of their overall grade.
This week, students will be working on a Unit Project found in their textbooks. It helps them review many of the skills they learned throughout the school year.
*There is no homework or quiz this week. However, if student behavior is problematic and classwork is not completed, I may assign homework.
Have a great week!

Hello Parents and students!
Welcome back from Fall Break! I hope you all had a wonderful time and enjoyed some rest, relaxation, and recreation! We are back into the swing of things. There are a few things I wanted to make you aware of:
- October Fall Conference- During the week of October 16 to 20, we will be having conferences with the parents of our homeroom students. You should have already received a Sign Up Genius invite to schedule a conference with me on either Tuesday or Wednesday of that week. Please check your email and sign up. Parents who have a child that is not in my homeroom can always reach me by email at [email protected] with any questions or concerns they may have.
- Interactive notebooks- I NEED all parents to get their child a composition notebook (any color) for math class. I would like to start using it in class as an interactive notebook. This would assist in your child's learning and serve as a resource for test preparation and review.
- Moby Max- Please have your child practice Fact Fluency nightly on Moby Max! At least 15 minutes would make a big difference in their fact fluency.
What we're learning this week (10/2- 10/6):
- We are reviewing all the standards we learned in Chapter One for a final chapter one test on Wednesday. Topics we are reviewing:
- Read and write numbers
- Compare and order numbers
- Rounding
- Addition and Subtraction with estimation
- Please do not be overly concerned about the test. We have done a lot of review in class and these standards have been taught and retaught several times.
- We are also reteaching/reviewing Estimating Products and taking a mini quiz on the standard on Friday.
Parents, thanks for your support and all you do to help your child succeed!
Hello Parents and students!

- Progress reports went home this week. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
- This is only the 4 1/2 week mark in the grading period. Your child will have more time to complete assignments and improve their grades. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email me at [email protected].
- Missing homework- Homework is usually assigned for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights. Many students are not turning in their homework. They give me many excuses as to why they don't have it, but I can't give a grade for work I never receive. No homework turned in equals a zero for that assignment in the gradebook. This will have a negative impact of their grades.
- Quizzes- Quizzes are given every Friday. The material in the quiz is whatever was taught that week. The homework assignments have almost the exact same questions as the homework. That's another reason it is important for your child to complete their homework daily. Please help them study on Thursday nights by reviewing the homework and lessons in their textbooks.
- There are several resources to help your child improve in math. They are listed on the home page of our 4th grade blog. Here are two that are especially helpful for math:
- Mobymax.com- PLEASE HAVE YOUR CHILD PRACTICE THEIR FACT FLUENCY ON MOBYMAX DAILY! Your child should have already have their login information for this website. There is an initial assessment on the website for them to take. Afterwards, they can work on several different activities and games to improve various math skills.
- Think Central at https://www-k6.thinkcentral.com- This website has a digital copy of your child's math textbook and other activities and resources. Below are instructions for logging on.
- Go to the website www-k6.thinkcentral.com
- Choose "United States" for country
- Choose "Georgia" for state
- Choose "Cobb Co School District, Marietta 30060" for district
- Enter username "fourthgrade"
- Enter password "mathrocks"
- Explore and enjoy!
- This week, we started our new unit in math. This unit covers the following skills:
- solve multi-step problems using the four operations
- use estimation to solve multiplication and division problems
- find factors and multiples
- identify prime and composite numbers
- generate patterns
- Your student should already have their new Chapter 2 textbooks. Please help them keep up with them by reminding them to put them in their binders when they are done with their homework. I have their Chapter 1 textbooks in case we need to review those skills soon and so they won't have to carry two books in their binders.
- Supplies
- Please make sure your child brings pencils and paper to school in their binders DAILY. I'm loaning out pencils and paper everyday, and my supplies are VERY limited. We want to make sure each student learns to be responsible and prepared for school each day.
- I ALWAYS welcome supply donations for my class. The following items are especially needed and appreciated:
- paper towels
- copy paper
- dry erase markers
- notebook paper
- sharpie markers
- As always parents, if you have any questions, concerns, ideas, suggestions, etc., don't hesitate to contact me at [email protected]! Thank you so much for all your support and sharing your wonderful children with me!
